Blabbing About Baubles: Citrine

Kate is known to be very fond of citrine. Today I will be talking about this gemstone.

The name “citrine” derives from the word “citrus”. The lemon yellow color citrine can be prompted its name. Citrine is heat treated quartz. It is sometimes pushed into the same category as topaz (they are both the birthstone for November), but it doesn’t have much in common with topaz (which is a higher quality gem).

Citrine has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. As shown in the photo above, citrine can come in various shades: pale yellow to deep honey to dark amber.

Yellow quartz is rare in nature, but it can be found (it has been found in Spain, Arran, France and Hungary).
