Queen Jetsun Pema gifted this rose gold and diamond pendant necklace to Kate during her visit to Bhutan. Kate wore it while departing Bhutan to head to Agra, India on April 16, 2016.
We first got a close look at this necklace through the hard work and efforts of Anna, who runs My Small Obsessions.
It was revealed in the media that this was a gift from the Queen of Bhutan. We eventually learned that it was created by Bhutanese designer Sonam Rabgye.
The Endless Knot “ overlaps without a beginning or an end, symbolising the Buddha’s endless wisdom and compassion. It indicates continuity as the underlying reality of existence.” (via Religious Facts).
I personally received the following information from the company:
“The pendant was a special order from Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen Queen of Bhutan as a gift for the Duchess of Cambridge who visited Bhutan with HRH the Duke of Cambridge.
In fact, I was caught breathless when I heard that the Duchess was wearing the piece! I felt so humbled yet grateful to our wonderful Queen for her support and kindness.
This custom made Endless Knot necklace is an auspicious Buddhist symbol representing the harmony of wisdom and compassion.”
I spoke to Sonam on Twitter and she confirmed that Kate’s necklace is made of rose gold (the website offers a yellow gold version).
Here it is on Kate:
This is priced at $1,200. I know Kate’s is bespoke, so it’s possible hers could have cost a little more.
The yellow gold version is available for sale on Sonam Rabgye’s website.
